Abstract
1,080,519. Cartridge-actuated tools. ANSTALT FUR MONTAGE-TECHNIK. Aug. 26, 1965 [Sept. 3, 1964], No. 36772/65. Heading B4C. A cartridge-actuated tool for driving fasteners, such as a stud 12, comprises a barrel 13, a thrust piston 11 slidable therein and a firing device mounted on a support 1 movable relatively to the barrel, an interlocking device 20, 23a being provided such that when the tool is moved into its working position (Fig. 2) the resulting relative movement causes the device to rigidly connect the barrel to the support. The interlocking device comprises a lever having arms 22, 24 and pivoted on a pin 21, the arm 22 being formed with an end 23 provided with teeth 23a arranged to co-operate with teeth 20 formed on the barrel. In operation, after a cartridge has been inserted into a chamber 6 and a stud 12 fitted into the barrel, the end thereof is placed against the work surface 15 as shown and by applying pressure to a handle 4 on the support 1, the latter is moved relative to the stationary drive piston. During this movement a projection on the arm 24 rides along a surface 26 of the piston head 11a, the latter abuts against recoil piston 8 loaded by a spring 9. Just before the relative movement ceases, the projection rides up a cam surface 11a<SP>1</SP> on the piston head, thereby moving the lever so that the teeth are brought into mating engagement.
