Abstract
1,204,575. Cartridge-actuated tools. HILTI A.G. 25 June, 1968 [14 July, 1967], No. 30348/68. Heading B4C. An explosive-actuated tool for driving fasteners, such as pins 12, into hard materials, comprises a hammer piston 7 slidably mounted in a barrel 6 and which, in its initial position, abuts a cartridge chamber as shown, the tool being provided with a pivoted lever 4 mounted on a housing 1 and adapted to contact a guide washer 14 on the pin 12 to thereby move the pin and hammer piston towards the initial position. The lever 4 is normally pivoted out of alignment with a slot 16 in the bairel so that a fasterer can be inserted into the letter with its head in contact with the piston. Upon rotation of a sleeve 2 and movement thereof towards the front end of the barrel, the lever is moved into alignment with the slot 16. Continued forward movement of the sleeve then moves the barrel, via a dog 5 engaging the end 15b, Fig. 3, of a slot (15) in the barrel, so as to cause the lever to engage the washer and so force the piston into its initial firing position. The sleeve is then rotated so as to bring the dog into an open-ended portion (15a) of the slot (15), thereby allowing the barrel to be pressed against a workpiece in order to cock the firing mechanism.
