Abstract

1,150,584. Monitoring radio transmitters; keying oscillators. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 23 Aug., 1966 [26 Aug., 1965], No. 37643/66. Headings H3T and H4L. In an arrangement for protecting the output stage of a radio transmitter the output stage T 5 , 12 feeds the aerial via a directional coupler 13 which includes a detector circuit supplying a direct voltage to the base of a transistor T 1 in the protecting device 18 when a reflected wave occurs in the coupler 13 due to abnormal operation. The transistor T 1 normally is conducting but when a voltage is supplied from 13 it is cut off and drives transistor T 2 into saturation to short-circuit a Zener diode Z. Under normal conditions the diode Z counteracts small supply voltage fluctuations but when it is shortcircuited the drop of potential at the base of the master oscillator transistor T 4 causes this transistor to be cut off to remove the drive from the output stage. A meter 15 is provided to indicate correct tuning of the aerial circuit.
