Abstract

1,144,890. Electro-photographic development. KALLE A.G. Aug. 19, 1966 [Aug. 21, 1965], No.37289/66. Heading G2H. [Also in Division B2] A latent electrostatic image on a material is developed by feeding the material by rollers 3 via a guide 4 through at least one jet of developer liquid from one or more nozzles 1, and removing excess developer by rollers 5 (which rollers may be flushed with developer between development by the use of an appropriate deflector 9); the jet of developer is in the form of a uniform curtain of liquid of uniform height, being at least as wide as the material to be developed, and having, when unimpeded a parabolic trajectory, the distance h between the apex of the trajectory and the plane in which the material is developed being 10 to 70 mm. In a modification, Fig. 4, the material to be developed is transported by a movable suction device 22 against the force of a fixed suction device 21; the jet 15 of developer liquid is produced by spraying liquid from a reservoir 17 by a pump 16 through a nozzle 12 on to a curved, preferably parabolic, deflector plate 14 which may have ribs (25a) or projections (25b) to widen the jet produced. The nozzles used may have a slit orifice, or one or more rows of circular orifices, preferably adjacent baffles; alternatively the baffles may be used alone. The apparatus is preferably used for reversal development.
