A hatch cover comprises two parts 1, 2, the cover part 1 comprising two cover sections 3, 4 hinged at 7 so that the two cover sections fold with their under sides turned towards each other, there being in the transverse joint 13 between the cover parts 1 and 2 a seal formed by sealing strip 16 in groove 15 against which is pressed bulge 17 on sealing flange 18, the hinge 7 between the cover sections at closed cover being situated below an imaginary line 31 which connects hinge shaft 9 on the hatch covering and the point where roller 25 rests on the hatch coaming when cover part 1 is in closed position. Cover section 4 is provided with a lifting means in the form of a sword-shaped plate 30 having an inclined plane 29 which co-operates with roller 28 so as to lift the sealing strip 16 out of engagement with the sealing flange 18.
