Abstract

1,206,806. Releasable fastenings. MARINE MOISTURE CONTROL CO. Inc. 22 Nov., 1967 [29 June, 1967], No. 53139/67. Headings E2A and E2B. [Also in Division F2] A closure for an opening 3 in the steel deck 2 of a cargo tanker comprises a metal cover plate 6 having a sealing gasket 7 on one side for engagement with the deck, a shaft 8 extending through a centrally-located aperture in the cover plate and being axially slidable therein, seals 9 between said shaft and cover plate, a bridge member 11 mounted on the shaft on the gasketed side of the cover plate and having at least two legs 12, and a cam lever 17 pivoted to the shaft and adapted to move the shaft axially to clamp the bridge member and cover plate against the rim of the opening. In the clamped position, Fig. 2 (not shown), the cam lever lies within a recess 21 in the cover plate, and the cam surface 20 is arranged so that the resulting pressure on said surface in the closed position tends to lock the handle in this position. As shown, the bridge member is provided with three legs, each having a terminal pressure pad 14. The cover plate is provided with centralising flanges 18 and stiffening webs 19, Fig. 3 (not shown).
