Abstract

1,139,259. Variable resistor. CLAROSTAT MFG. CO. Inc. 22 Aug., 1966 [9 Sept., 1965], No. 37484/66. Heading H1S. Carbon resistance element 16 is wiped by a projection 22 on cylindrical carbon rotating member 12 and a second projection 24 on member 12 wipes collector element 38. Spring 11, which may be of Be-Cu alloy, has lugs 27, 28 which engage with channels 29, 30 at the sides of member 12, so that it rotates with member 12. Portions 35, 36 of spring 11 bear on the inside 37 of lever 10, which may be of brass, so that it urges member 12 against resistance element 16 and collector element 38, and projection 40 acts as a rotating stop, contacting a part 41 of cover 10 in its extreme position. An aperture 21 in the end of cover 10 and slots 39, 26 in member 12 and spring 11 allow member 12 to be rotated by inserting the end of a screwdriver into slot 26.
