Abstract

1,134,509. Connector contacts. INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP. 22 Dec., 1966 [30 Dec., 1965], No. 57375/66. Heading H2E. The socket 16, Fig. 1, of an electrical connector comprises a tubular member 18 having a bore 20 open at one end 21 and having two circumferentially spaced slots 25, 26, Fig. 6, through the walls of the tube, and a resilient C-spring 30 having two flanges, of which, one, 31a, seats in slot 26 and has a length less than the thickness of the wall of the tube and the other, 32a, seats in slot 25 and has a length greater than the thickness of the wall of the tube such that when a pin 17 is inserted in the socket it is held by flange 32a against the opposite wall of the bore 20. The tube 18 is preferably provided with an undercut 22 in which case the axial movement of the spring 30 is limited by the shoulders 23, 24. The spring 30 may be made of metal or plastics material and the flange 32a may be formed by folding back the material of the spring (Fig. 6) or by forming a dimple in the material of the spring (Fig. 8, not shown). The tube 18 may be of non-circular cross-section and the end of the flange 32a nearer the open end 21 of the bore 20 is rounded to facilitate the entry of the pin 17. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 977,346.
