Abstract
1,133,263. Reforming naphtha; aromatic hydrocarbons; ethylene. STAMICARBON N.V. 19 July, 1966 [26 July, 1965], No. 32430/66. Heading C5E. A process for the conversion of light naphtha comprises contacting the light naphtha with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst suitable for the dehydrogenation of organic materials under conditions of temperature and pressure and hydrogen/naphtha ratio so that at least half of the naphtha is converted to saturated C 1 -C 4 hydrocarbons and the remaining part into a liquid comprising at least 70% by weight of aromatics and further consisting mainly of saturated C 5 hydrocarbons. The aromatic fraction may be rectified to produce benzene, toluene, and a mixture of xylenes and ethylbenzene; the light hydrocarbons may be further cracked to produce ethylene. Suitable reforming catalysts are Cr, Mo, Pt or Pd on alumina, silica or silica-alumina. The cracking to ethylene is non-catalytic.
