Abstract

1,131,242. Spray-producers. GENERAL FOODS Ltd. 18 Feb., 1966 [18 Feb., 1965], No. 7145/65. Heading B2F. A nozzle suitable for use in a spray-drying tower comprises a body portion I provided with a liquid inlet passage 2, a tungsten carbide insert 5 loosely mounted within a cylindrical bore 4 in the body I, a cap member 8, and a plate 11 which is adapted to be screwed down onto the body 1 so as to lower the cap 8 and compress a pair of resilient sealing members 9 and 10 located between the insert and the body. The liquid reaches the outlet 6 in the insert .5 via an annular groove 3 and a pair of tangential passages 7 which cause the liquid to be discharged as a whirling spray. The insert, when worn, may be easily replaced and may be resiliently supported by the members 9 and 10.
