Abstract
1,128,600. Capacitors. SACHSENWERK LIGHT-UND KRAFTA.G. 13 March, 1967 [12 March, 1966], No. 11662/67. Heading H1M. A capacitor for evenly distributing the total voltage between the individual series-connected switching contacts of high voltage circuit breakers comprises concentric metal cylinders 1, 2, 3 and 4 separated by cast resin dielectric 6 and surrounded by ribbed cast resin dielectric 7. The outer cylinder may act as a casting mould, holes 9 being provided to admit the resin. Fixing and terminating nuts 5 are so securely mounted in the dielectric that the capacitor may function as a structural element in the switching apparatus. The capacitor may incorporate, within the dielectric, damping series resistance (e.g. as in Fig. 2, not shown) and/or discharge parallel resistance, or, instead of the latter, the dielectric may be rendered slightly conducting. A capacitor for particularly high operating voltages (Fig. 3, not shown) has the electrodes shaped for the most advantageous electrical field distribution, the space within the series electrode containing only air. The inner walls of the cylinders may be coated with conductive lacquer which adheres to the resin and minimises the effects of its shrinking.
