Abstract

1,008,660. Arc extinguishing in switches. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Sept. 30, 1963 [Oct. 8, 1962], No. 38082/62. Heading H2B. An arc extinguishing structure comprises two walls 3, 5 electrically connected with separable contacts 1, 2 at least one wall 5 comprising a plurality of conductive plates 5a spaced apart edge to edge and each connected to contact 2 by a resistor 9, the values of resistor 9 progressively increasing away from the contacts. A further wall 4 is provided and the resistors 9, of carbon, are used to support the plates 5a from the wall 4. In a modification for A.C. use wall 3 is replaced by further walls 4, 5 and resistors 9.
