Abstract

1,120,049. Lifting-beams. LIFTING & ENGINEERING SERVICES (LANCASHIRE) Ltd. 4 July, 1967 [5 May, 1966], No. 19825/66. Heading B8H. A lifting beam 10, Fig. 1, has two carriages 12 which are connected to opposite runs of an endless cable, which passes round pulleys at opposite ends of the beam, so that when one carriage is moved the other moves an equal distance in the opposite direction. When the weight of the load attached to a shackle 23, Fig. 4, overcomes a spring 32, a serrated pad 28 is pressed against the bottom flange 14 of the beam to lock the carriage to the beam. In a second embodiment, Fig: 13, the beam is of box section and the carriages T-shaped, supported on spring loaded balls 63 and guided by rollers 65. When the load compresses the springs above the balls 63 the carriage portions 62 rest on the flanges and lock the carriage to the beam.
