Abstract

1,117,900. Air cleaner. D. A. G. MARSHALL. 20 Dec., 1965 [18 Dec., 1964], No. 51602/64. Heading BIT. A small, portable air cleaning unit comprises a casing 10 containing a fan 18 and two filter elements, coarse element 16 being removably located over downwardly facing inlet port 14, upstream of the fan, while fine, cylindrical element 26 is located downstream. Element 16 may be foamed polyurethane or felted or woven glass fibres and is of flat disc shape. Element 26 comprises a layer of pleated fibrous material such as paper, a supporting layer of perforated, expanded or woven metal, and active carbon, which may comprise a separate layer (Fig. 3, not shown) or be incorporated in the fibrous material. Element 26 is located in compartment 36 of the casing, which has an outlet grid (38).
