A traveller for ring- spinning &c., that is particularly useful for preventing fraying when doubling stiff glass filaments that have been coated with bonding-agent that is readily removable, is provided with a roller for guiding the yarn on its path to the winding spool. The roller may be arranged internally or externally of the traveller; it may be arranged at the upper, lower, or middle region of the traveller; it may be mounted on a bracket integrally moulded with or fixed to the traveller. It may be mounted on the traveller itself or on a bracket by a hinge or ball device so that the roller is able to orientate itself automatically e.g. between two extreme positions corresponding to the commencement and termination of the wind. In a preferred form, the roller is mounted in a bracket 12 fixed by a bolt 13 to the traveller. In this case, the traveller being fixed and incapable of orienting itself, is so arranged that the plane of symmetry of the roller perpendicular to its axis, bisects the angle formed by two planes each passing through short segments of yarn upstream and downstream of the roller, in the one case at the start, and in the other at the end of the wind. The traveller is C-shaped and has inclined outer faces 4, 5. The roller, which is carried by a screw-theaded bolt 10, has lateral flanges inclined at an angle which is greater than or equal to that assumed by the yarn travelling over the roller. Between the flanges is a groove of greater radius of curvature than the radius of the yarn.
