Abstract
1,107,181. Making mouthpiece cigarettes. MOLINS MACHINE CO. Ltd. and D. W. MOLINS. 4 Jan., 1966, No. 485/65. Heading A2C. A method of producing mouthpiece cigarettes comprises the successive steps of producing a continuous cigarette rod, severing the rod to produce endwise moving doublelength cigarettes 1 and 2, separating the double-length cigarettes to produce endwise spaces therebetween, inserting into alternate spaces double-length stubs 7 and into all other spaces two single-length stubs, forming an assemblage comprising a central double-length stub 7 flanked by two double-length cigarettes 1 and 2 with a single-length stub 8 and 10 outside each of the two double-length cigarettes, moving the assemblage sideways, uniting the cigarettes and stubs of the assemblage by means of uniting bands 14-17 so as to produce a united assemblage and of severing the centres of the double-length stub and cigarettes at 19 to produce four mouthpiece cigarettes. The stubs may be inserted into the spaces between the double-length cigarettes while they are moving in an endwise direction.
