Abstract

1,100,733. Wrapping articles. " SAPAL " SOC. ANON. DES PLIEUSES AUTOMATIQUES. 5 May, 1966 [7 July, 1965], No. 19943/66. Heading B8C. An article such as a chocolate tablet 1 is enclosed in a strip of foil 4 around three sides as it is advanced across a support table 10, whereupon the free ends of the strip are mated to form a flap, which is folded against a side of the article to extend in a direction opposite to the article movement direction. As described, the tablet 1 is moved forward by a pusher 7 into the path of the foil 4, pre-folded at rightangles, on to a fixed support 11, whereupon the upper projecting end of the foil is folded downwards by a pusher 17. Simultaneously, the lower projecting end of the foil is pulled downwards by a suction cup (18), after which the free ends of the foil are bonded together between a heated hammer 13 and a heating element 12 fixed on the support 11. The tablet is then moved forward by the pusher 17 to cause the flap so formed to be laid flat on to the underside of the tablet. In an alternative embodiment, part of the free ends of the foil 4 are compressed together by two movable hammers (13, 20) (Fig. 9, not shown) whilst the extreme ends of the flap are held horizontal by a roller (23), which is then rotated to fold up the extreme ends on to the compressed part of the flap.
