A machine for wrapping an article introduced thereto in a partially wrapped condition comprises a reciprocable pusher 3, reciprocable strips 11 having attached thereto tuck-in tongues 9, 10 for tucking in flaps 14, 15 (Fig. 7, not shown), a pair of vertically movable blades (not shown) for folding trailing flaps (Fig. 5, not shown), members 5, 5a for folding lateral flaps 16, 17 (Fig. 7, not shown), and transversely reciprocable tamping plates 13. In operation, a partially wrapped article is placed in front of the pusher 3 in its fully retracted position (not shown), and the article is then indexed by the pusher past the tuck-in tongues 9, thus effecting tucking in of flaps 15. The pusher is then fully retracted, the strips are moved to the right, and the trailing flaps are then folded by the blades prior to the strips moving to the left to effect tucking in of flaps 14 by the tongues 10. Movement of the article, by a subsequent article, past the members 5, 5a, causes folding of the lateral flaps. Finally, the article is clamped between plates 13 reciprocable by cam surfaces 11a on strips 11. The wrapper may consist of synthetic plastics material and the plates 13 may include heating elements. The machine is adjustable to accommodate articles of varying widths.
