Abstract

1,090,233. Sterilisers. SANDERSON STERILISERS Ltd. June 19, 1964 [Aug. 3, 1963], No. 30879/63. Heading A5G. Apparatus for automatically sterilising an article or a series of articles comprises a steriliser having a bell-like casing open at the bottom and adapted to be moved relatively to a base, from a position in which sealing engagement is made with the base to an open position, and means for raising and lowering the bell-like casing, characterised in that conveying means are adapted to be actuated to feed an article to the base at a pre-determined part of each cycle of operations when the belllike casing is raised. As shown in connection with the steriliser of Specification 889,044, a series of containers 10, each containing a batch of articles to be sterilised, is placed on a gravity conveyor 31 which feeds them to a platform 12 one behind another. The bell-like casing 29 of the steriliser 11 is raised and a ram 18 actuates the conveyor to feed the leading container on to the steriliser base 13, thus interrupting a beam of light to the photoelectric cell 27. The conveyor sleeves 16 are then retracted and stopped and the bell-like casing 29 lowered and the sterilising process started. At the end of the sterilisation process, the bell-like casing 29 is raised, the conveyor is advanced to displace the container 10 off the steriliser base 13 to a discharge conveyor 26 and the leading container 10 on the platform 12 is moved onto the base 13. The ram 18 may be a pneumatic or hydraulic ram.
