Abstract

Vinyl resins such as PVC contain as microbicidal agent a 10-halophenox-arsine or an alkyl or halogen derivative thereof, 10 thiocyanato-phenoxarsine, or 10, 101-oxybis- or 10, 101-thiobis-phenoxarsine. The compounds are incorporated into the resin by dissolving in a fugitive solvent which is an organic hydroxyl compound, e.g. a phenol, alkylphenol, chlorophenol, aminophenol, dihydric phenol, mono- or poly-hydric alcohol or a mono-carboxylic acid and mixing this with the resin. Preferably the solution is mixed with a plasticizer before adding to the resin, e.g. tricresyl-phosphate, dipropylene glycol dibenzoate, diphenylcresyl phosphate, alkyl aryl phosphates, epoxidized soya, epoxidized tallate, dioctyl azelate, diisobutyl phthalate or hydrogenated methyl rosin ester. In the examples a barium-cadmium-zinc soap is also added.
