Abstract
1,084,885. Supplying liquid fuel to burners. DOWTY FUEL SYSTEMS Ltd. Feb. 22, 1966 [March 9, 1965], No. 10019/65. Heading F4T. In a pumping system for supplying liquid fuel to one or more spill type nozzles of burners a main pressure pump 11 of positive displacement type has its outlet pipe 12 connected to the inlet of the spill burner 18. An injector pump 23 with a chamber 25 forming a suction zone connected to a fuel tank 27 has a divergent outlet 26 connected through a sequence valve 16 to the inlet 35 of pump 11 and the inlet of the injector pump 23 is connected to the spill pipe 19 from the burner through a flow control valve 20 and a relief valve 14. The pipe 12 passes through a fuel heater 13, which may be turned off when the burner 18 acquires sufficient heat from the combustion chamber, but which reduces the viscosity of the fuel which is low grade fuel of high viscosity and the heater may be used prior to starting up the apparatus. Valve 16, on shut down, stays in an intermediate position long enough to connect pipes 17, 19 to the main pump inlet 35 to allow the burner 18 and its pipes to be drained and the fuel returned to tank 27.
