Abstract

<PICT:1083311/C4-C5/1> Indicia 1 are formed in a three-layer panel forming a sign, switch panel or instrument dial or panel and comprising a transparent layer 4 sandwiched between an opaque layer 5 and a translucent layer 5, by cutting through the opaque layer and into the transparent layer but leaving the translucent layer intact. The indicia are then visible in good light by reflection or in poor light by an electroluminescent light source 7 which is incorporated in an acrylic resin support 6 on which the panel is mounted. The translucent layer may be painted or incorporate pigment, the opaque layer may be P.V.C. and the transparent layer acrylic resin. The layers may be thin (less than 0.010 inch each) so the laminate may be flexed to conform to curved surfaces.
