Abstract
1,076,452. Dividing engines. J. HEIDENHAIN [trading as WENCZLER & HEIDENHAIN]. Feb. 1, 1965 [Jan.31, 1964], No.4346/65. Heading G1X. In a device for guiding a member 13 along a guide surface 12 of a guide member 11 e. g. for ruling grating lines, none of the weight of the member 13 is taken by the surface 12, and all forces on the guide member 11 are balanced so as to produce no resultant forces thereon tending to distort the surface 12. The member 13 moves perpendicular to the plane of the drawing with its weight supported by two rollers (not shown) running on a fixed guide member 8, the member 11 having three pads as 17, 18 contacting and sliding along the surface 12. A forked member 1 straddles the carrier member 8 and is supported thereon by three rollers as 6, 7. The pads on the member 13 are kept in contact with the surface 12 by means of a screw 20 on the member 1 acting through a ball 24 on a groove in a three armed leaf spring 22 bearing on the member 13 by means of three balls, as 25, 26. A counter-pressure element 14 is also carried by the member 1 by means of a screw 35 and ball 36 and is fitted with three rollers, as 31, 32 to roll on a surface 30 of the member 11 opposite the guide surface 12. The ball 25, pad 17 and roller 31 all cut along the same line as do the corresponding sets of balls, rollers and pads, so that there is no resultant force on the member 11 tending to distort the surface 12. The member 1 may be driven by a screw-threaded spindle (not shown).
