Abstract

To ensure that each of a plurality of heating appliances, which are connected at different levels to the same upwardly extending chimneylike duct 1, is run as efficiently as possible, the open end 6 of the outlet duct 4 of such an appliance is chamfered and made to project into the upwardly extending duct 1 with the inlet duct 3, used for supplying combustion air, having its open end 5 flush with the inside surface of said duct. The amount of projection and chamfer of duct 4 is determined by the nature and relative positions of the appliance 2 and duct 1. Such an arrangement prevents a fall in pressure in the outlet duct, caused by the flow past it, thereby ensuring that the whole air flow through the appliance is brought about by the draught caused by the appliance itself.
