Abstract

A composition comprises particles of a highly cross-linked natural or synthetic rubber, which has been produced by vulcanization utilizing 1.5 to 3% by weight of sulphur based upon rubber solids, and an oleaginous material in an amount of 50 to 5% of the composition. Suitable oleaginous materials are oils such as castor oil or palm oil, mineral oil, petroleum jelly or a non-volatile fatty acid such as stearic acid. The compositions are made by mixing a vulcanized latex with the material or emulsion thereof, coagulating and removing excess water. The composition is a masterbatch for incorporation into natural or synthetic rubber to improve the processing characteristics.
