Abstract

Zn and Cd salts of dimer, trimer and higher polymers of unsaturated C18 acids are prepared by reacting the acids with metal salts (e.g. the acetates) or with metal oxides (e.g. ZnO). In examples the acid used comprises 95% dimer, 4% trimer and 1% of monobasic linoleic acid; or 75% dimer, 24% trimer and 1% monobasic acid. Other acids specified are oleic, iso-oleic, elaidic, vapic, stearolic and heptadecenic acids.ALSO:Polyolefin compositions having good receptivity for dyestuffs are obtained by incorporation of Group IIb metal salts of dimers, trimers or higher polymers of unsaturated C18 aliphatic acids. The preferred salts are the Zn and Cd derivatives of oleic, iso-oleic, elaidic, alpha-linolenic, rapic, stearolic and heptadecenic acids. Optional ingredients included in the examples are calcium stearate, phenolic compounds, titanium dioxide and didodecylthiodiglycolate. The compositions find application as fibre, film, tapes and other shaped articles.
