A portable dental device comprises a tapered and pointed nozzle 1 of a size to fit into the interproximal spaces at all points of the dental arch, liquid supply container 23 adapted to be held in the hand and manually operable pump means comprising spring loaded plunger 26 and trigger 29 for withdrawing liquid from container 23 and discharging it through nozzle 1. In use the plunger 26 is forced along the cylinder 9 by applying finger pressure to trigger 29 and on release of finger pressure the plunger 26 is retracted by spring 30. On retraction, ball valve is opened and liquid from container 23, is sucked into cylinder 9. The liquid in cylinder 9 is discharged intermittently or continuously by plunger 26 through nozzle 1 via valve 4. Nozzle 1 may take various forms.
