Abstract

A paint spreading device comprises a handle member having a rigid free-ended feed tube connected therewith, a paint reservoir, means for urging paint from said reservoir through said feed tube, manually operable means associated with said handle member for controlling the supply of paint from said reservoir to said feed tube, and a roller removably and revolvably mounted on said feed tube with <PICT:0666798/III/1> <PICT:0666798/III/2> <PICT:0666798/III/3> <PICT:0666798/III/4> a free counter end and having a permeable outer member, said roller being adapted to receive paint internally thereof from said feed tube and to discharge the same through the permeable outer member as the roller is rolled on a surface to be painted. Referring to the drawings, container 10 is filled with paint by retracting piston 11, against spring 13 by pull rod 46 with tee 48 inserted under hook 49 on piston face 11, while filling tube 19 is pivoted to position 191, Fig. 1, so aligning port 16 on barrel 10 with port 18 on the tube, and while tube 19 is also inserted in a paint container. Tube 19 is then moved back so as move port 18 out of register with port 16, then when trigger 24 is pulled needle 26 releases paint from the barrel 10 to roller 33 via port 27, tubes 28 and 29, bores 30 and 31 and tube 32. The roller 33 comprises perforated inner tube 40 on which the roller is free to rotate and outer perforated tube 37 covered by tube 44 of some permeable and flexible material. To operate the apparatus of Fig. 6, plug 162 is removed from tube 164 which is then moved to turn valve body 172 until port 176 registers with bores 168 and 170 and so with reservoir 130. Tube 164 is then dipped into paint which is sucked into reservoir 130 as cylinder 138 is retracted by withdrawing cord 156. Plug 162 is then re-inserted in tube 164 after it has been returned to its original position. Reservoir 130 is then gripped by hand and tube 164 pressed against spring 190 which turns valve body until passage 174 opens reservoir 130 to tube 196 and so to the roller.
