Abstract

1,068,707. Inductive signalling data transmission. INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORPORATION. July 30, 1965 [Aug. 7, 1964], No. 32749/65. Headings H4P and H4U. An inductive signalling system in a funicular railway or the like utilizes the movable traction cable loop co-operating with the fixed and movable stations, a first service signal being transmitted by altering by equal and opposite amounts the amplitudes of two currents of different frequency which in the absence of service signals are of equal amplitude, a second service signal being transmitted by altering the amplitudes by equal amounts in the opposite sense to that for the first service signal, and means being provided whereby telephone signals also may be transmitted via the loop. The inductive coupling is provided by transformers through which the traction cable passes. Various coding arrangements for " start," " stop " and " emergency " signals and an extension of the system to the public telephone service are described. The traction cables may be checked to give warning of contact with a carrying cable and the transmission channels tested by checking the constancy of the sum of the amplitudes of the pairs of frequencies, or by determining the change of resistance of the traction cables.
