Abstract
1,067,598. Heating rollers. G. OVERTON. June 2, 1965 [June 15, 1964], No. 23566/65. Heading F2U. A rotary dryer drum comprising a cylindrical shell 16 closed by end plates 17 from which extend bearing trunnions 18 is heated by steam, water, or other heating fluid, supplied as non- radial jets 30 to its inner surface through lines 31, 21, 23 and fixed pipes 22 extending the length of the shell close to said inner surface, to its ends by jets 28, and to the centre of the drum through lines 32, 40, and a nozzle 41. Valves 37 control the division of fluid between the jets 28, 30 and the nozzle 41 so that the supply pressure to the former is greater than to the latter, and valves 24, reached through plugged access holes 19, control the distribution between the jets 28, 30. The jets 30 blow condensate from the walls of the shell 16 to the bottom, whence it is extracted by a syphon 35, 33, 36. As shown, two pipes 22 lie in a horizontal plane through the rotational axis of the drum. Alternatively, seven pipes at 45 degrees spacing may be used, with no pipe at the bottom of the drum. A film of material (P) to be dried is carried round a major part of the drum periphery and is removed by a scraper (12 or 14, Figs. 1, 2, not shown).
