Abstract
1,066,870. Flash bulbs. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Sept. 18, 1964 [Sept.23, 1963; July 17, 1964] No.38159/64. Heading G2L. A photo-flash lamp comprises a sealed transparent bulb contains a solid substance, an ignition system and a gas consisting mainly of one or more fluorine compounds reactive with said substance upon ignition. The gas may also comprise a gaseous or volatile hydrocarbon, many of which are specified, to increase light output and decrease the time interval between ignition and maximum light flux. Specified fluorides are those of I, O, N, Si, elements of Groups III and IVa, and the actinides. Suitable solid substances are Al, Zr, Th, Al/Mg, B and Si. The ignition system may comprise a tungsten filament coated with a small quantity of ignition paste comprising Zr, PbO2 and nitrocellulose.
