Abstract

1,065,857. Locks. C. LOMBARDI. April 8, 1964 [April 8, 1963], No. 14576/64. Heading E2A. A lock comprises a locking member 3 for retaining a bolt 2 in a locked condition, a key-operable lock barrel 14 having an actuator 8 which is movable into a plurality of positions in each of which an element 8b of the actuator is rotatable with the lock barrel, a corresponding plurality of movable stops 11, each movable, on rotation of the actuator member when the actuator is in the respective position, into a retaining position for retaining the locking member in the locking position, the actuator 8 being movable into a further position in which the element 8<SP>b</SP> is rotatable to displace the locking member 3 from the locking position and to unlock the bolt when none of the stops is in its retaining position. As shown, in which bolt 2 is slidable in a casing 1, the locking member 3 is spring- loaded and has a portion 4 which bears on the top of the bolt, and a pin 16 which normally blocks movement of the bolt. The member 3 is profiled for engagement by a cam 17 which is rotatable through gearing 5, 6 and 7 to lift the member 3 and allow the bolt to be moved by a pin rotatable with the gear 5. Rotation of the gearing is effected by the key-operated barrel 14 through the actuator 8 which is also connected to a numbered dial 9. The actuator 8 is loaded by a spring 18 away from the gear 7, in which position two catches 19 on the actuator 8 are disengaged from two pins 20 on the gear 7. Also the actuator 8 carries an extension piece which permits rotation of the actuator but not axial movement relative hereto. A tongue projecting from the barrel 14 engages a slot in the actuator 8, and a pin 10 on the extension co-operates with a cam surface on an extension of the dial such that the actuator 8 is rotatable by the key and is axially slidable by the dial. When the dial is set on 0, the catches 19 engage the pins 20 and the lock can be operated by the key of the lock. In any other position of the dial the catches engage a corresponding one of a number of the stops 11 in the form of pivoted cams, each of which, when so pivoted blocks movement of the member 3. The lock is provided with switch contacts 12 for connection in an alarm circuit and also with auxiliary contacts 23 and 24, all of which function to operate the alarm upon improper operation of the key or dial.
