Abstract
430,506. Locks. YALE & TOWNE MANUFACTURING CO., Stamford, Connecticut, U.S.A. Jan. 5, 1934, No. 437. Convention date, Jan. 17, 1933. [Class 44] A vertically-sliding bolt 12, particularly for the door of a locker, is operated by a handle 13 and is adapted to be locked by a bolt 21 which engages a member 11 slidable with the bolt 12. The bolt 21 is controlled by permutation discs 24, but a revolving-barrel lock 86 may be provided by which the bolt can be withdrawn independently of the permutation mechanism. The discs 24 are loosely mounted on a spindle 23, and are set by a knob 69 connected by a screw 68 to a numbered dial 67 and to a hollow member 63 which is coupled by projections 62 with a member 61 which operates to turn the discs 24. A portion 73 of the screw 68 normally engages with a notch 70 in the dial 67 to hold it in adjusted relation to the knob, and a portion of an attachment plate 65 enters a recess 72 in the screw to hold the knob to the plate 65 ; when a portion 71 of the screw is adjacent a notch in the plate 65, the screw can be turned through 180‹ to disengage it from the notch 70 and allow of adjustment of the dial on the knob. The knob 69 may house a revolving-barrel lock 86 having a cam 85 which operates a clutch device, Fig. 37, comprising slidable toothed members 84 adapted to engage with teeth 83 on a part 80 keyed to the spindle 23, thereby coupling the knob to the spindle. The spindle is provided with a cam 52 having a notch 54 to co-operate with a wedge-shaped projection 56 on the bolt 21 for retraction of the bolt. The bolt is alternatively retracted by a slide 22 which moves to the right under the action of a spring 26 when the gatings 25 in the discs 24 are aligned with a lug 27 on the slide. Two pivoted members 35 and 44, which engage with notches in the member 11 when the latter is in its locking position, are both displaced clockwise when the member 11 is moved against a spring 18 to unlocking position. The pivoted member 35 by means of a pin 36 moves a slide 33 to the left and pins 34 on the slide 33 entrain the slide 22 and thus disengage the lug 27 from the gatings 25; at the same time, the pivoted member 44, by a nose 46, engages a pin 46<a> on one disc 24 to displace it. When the member 11 is returned to its locking position, the bolt 21 is shot by a spring 28. The spindle 23 is held against accidental rotary displacement by co-operation of notches in the cam 52 with wedge-shaped projections 55 and 56 on the slide 33 and bolt 21 respectively. The member 11 is guided by undercut extensions on the lock casing.
