Abstract

1,064,681. Mixing &c. DEUTSCHE ERDOLA.G. March 9, 1964 [March 21, 1963], No. 9874/64, Heading B1C. [Also in Division E1] Liquid bitumen is recovered from subterranean deposits thereof by injecting a heat transfer medium through a borehole into the deposit. The medium is formed by burning hydrocarbons with an oxygen carrier containing 80-95% O 2 to form a hot combustion-gas, and by mixing the gas with a portion of the deposit content (bitumen and water) which is raised in temperature by 50‹-125‹C. Before mixing with the portion paraffinic C 1 -C 7 hydrocarbons may be mixed with the combustion gas. Apparatus for forming the heat transfer medium is shown. Hydrocarbons entering through, 1 and the oxygen carrier entering through 2 are ignited in a burner 3 some of the heat serving to heat water in a jacket 4. The resultant combustion gases are mixed with light hydrocarbons from 7 and the enriched combustion gases are pumped past a vaned rotor 11 and through a perforated disc 10 to mix with bitumen from 15 before passing through screen 14 to be injected into the borehole.
