[Also in Division B5] A chain cutter mortising and drilling machine for forming a mortise in the edge of a door 3 to receive a lock comprises a chain cutter tool mounted on a slidable carriage 2, and a supplementary device which 1s mounted on the carriage for movement therewith and is guided for movement so that a drilling and milling tool 5 of the device is movable axially towards and away from a side face of the door to bore holes in the door for the sleeve, handles and keyhole of the lock, and Is pivotable in a plane parallel to the side face of the door and movable with the carriage in a direction longitudinally of the door to cut a groove in the edge of the door for a lock plate of the lock. The door is held in the machine by a clamp 4 while the carriage 2 is moved so that the chain cutter tool cuts the mortise for the lock. A guide bar 10 extends from the carriage and slidably receives a sleeve 11 which supports an arm 12 carrying the electric motor 8 driving the tool 5 and is movable between abutments 13, 14 to advance and withdraw the tool from the door during the boring of the holes. A second sleeve 18 is slidable along the guide bar 10 and carries a rectangular bar 16 connected by an adjustable stop screw to an extension 20 of the arm 12 supporting the motor 8. A second stop screw 25 on the abutment 24 is arranged to engage the opposite side of the bar 17 to hold the tool 5 fast angularly during axial movement of the tool. An arm 26 extends from the bar 17 and has followers 28, 29 which engage the edge of the door to angularly position the motor 8 and tool 5 about the guide bar 10 for the cutting of the groove in the edge of the door as the carriage is moved parallel to the plane of the door.
