Abstract

1,081,251. Boring bars; tool clamps; machine tool details. F. SIROLA. Nov. 8, 1965, No. 47307/65. Headings B3B, B3C and B3T. A boring-bar comprises a bar 10 having at one end a cutter holder 18 mounted in a side opening 14 and adjusted by screw 30 and rack 22 and lockable by a locking wedge 34 and screw 40, and has a slide 50 movable in a dovetail slideway in the bar 10 which carries a further cutter holder 52 having adjusting and locking means similar to the cutter holder 18. The cutter holders 18 and 52 have triangular shaped carbide cutting elements 20, 54 which can be turned to any one of three cutting positions. The slide 50 has a screw-tightened locking gib for locking it in an adjusted position along the bar 10, the adjustment being set by vernier graduations on the bar 10 and slide 50. A reinforcing member 110 movable in the slideway and lockable in a position adjacent the slide 50 is provided and is clamped by a tool-holder of a lathe during a cutting operation. Fig. 11 (not shown), shows a boring bar having a tapered section (122) and a notched flange (120) for attaching to a rotating drive member (124) of a milling-machine.
