Abstract

The invention comprises an improved process of preparing clinically acceptable sodium warfarin which comprises suspending warfarin in substantially anhydrous methanol or ethanol, treating the said suspension with approximately one molar equivalent of sodium hydroxide dissolved in substantially anhydrous methanol or ethanol, and removing the solvent from the formed sodium warfarin until a syrupy residue is obtained, and drying the resulting sodium warfarin under reduced pressure at between normal temperature and 50 DEG C., or dissolving the said residue in hot isopropyl alcohol, cooling, and collecting the crystalline sodium warfarin isopropanolate, displacing the bound solvent and drying the product.
