Abstract

1,056,166. Projectile fuzes. SOC. ANONYME POUDRERIES REUNIES DE BELGIQUE. April 9, 1964 [April 10, 1963], No. 14738/64. Heading F3A. A projectile fuze has both an electric detonator and a percussion detonator which are held in a movable member. A rotor 2 shown in its unarmed position has two channels 40, 63 housing respectively the electric detonator 3 and the percussion detonator 5 and is held against rotation under the action of a spiral spring by a pin 14 engaging a blind hole 66. The electric detonator has two terminals 41, 43, the terminal 41 being permanently earthed by being connected to the rotor by a screw 42, and the terminal 43, inthe unarmed position contacting a flexible strip which also is earthed. After a safety pin 18 has been withdrawn and the projectile fired the pin 14 and its associated striker 13 are set back by the acceleration forces and a spring-loaded ball 20 holds the striker in a retracted position by engaging a groove 24: the released rotor 2 rotates anticlockwise until the percussion detonator 5 is opposite the striker 13 and the terminal 43 on the electric detonator 3 moves into contact with a second flexible strip 55 (not shown) which is connected to a piezo-electric crystal in the nose of the projectile. On impact the output from the crystal ignites the electric-detonator 3 and the pin 14 is plunged into the percussion detonator 5, both detonators being separately fired.
