Abstract
Mono-azo dyes of formula <FORM:1048883/C4-C5/1> in which R1 is an aromatic carbocyclic radical which may be substituted, R is an o-phenylene radical which may be substituted, and the methoxy group attached to R1 is in o-position to the azo group, are prepared by diazotizing and coupling an amine of formula H3CO-R1-NH2 with a coupling component of formula <FORM:1048883/C4-C5/2> in which R is as above, the dyes being free from sulphonic and carboxylic acid groups.ALSO:Polypropylene fibres which may be metal-modified are dyed or printed using dyes of formula <FORM:1048883/D1-D2/1> in which R1 is an aromatic carbocyclic radical, which may be substituted, R is an O-phenylene radical which may be substituted, and the methoxy group on R1 is in O-position to the azo group, the dyes being free from sulphonic and carboxylic acid groups. In particular the dyestuffs are applied from aqueous suspensions using dispersing or emulsifying agents at temperatures of preferably 50-130 DEG C. and at temperatures below 100 DEG C. a carrier is advantageously used. Conventional printing processes are employed. The polypropylene films may be modified with nickel, zinc, magnesium, copper or cobalt.
