Abstract

1,043,268. Paper-making. POTLATCH FORESTS INC. Nov. 19, 1963, No. 45696/63. Heading D2A. In a headbox of a paper-making machine stock is directed to impinge on the axial corrugations of a rotating roll 30 to spread axially therealong. The stock inlet may comprise a header 43 having a row of holes 44 to link it with cylindrical chamber 20, or a tapering pipe running parallel to roll 30 with a slot linking the pipe with chamber 20. A second inlet 45, 46 may be provided with holes 45 axially offset with respect to holes 44. Roll 30 preferably comprises a rubber sleeve 35 on a steel core 33. A suction forming box 13 is provided.
