Abstract

1,042,262. Fuel injection pumps. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. Jan. 23, 1964 [Jan. 24, 1963], No. 2905/64. Heading F1A. A fuel injection pump is driven from a shaft 23 and is fed with fuel from a supply pump 34 at a pressure which is a function of the engine speed. A spill passage 37 leads to the suction side of the supply pump 34 and contains a fixed restrictor 47. An adjusting device for the pump delivery timing comprises a piston 31, acted upon by the supply pump delivery pressure, which pistons acts on a follower 27 and nut 26. The axial displacement varies the timing of the start of injection, by varying the phase relationship of the camshaft 21 and the drive shaft 23. In an alternative embodiment the control slide 42 has a tapered portion of reduced diameter in the middle and this portion is in communication with the passage 37 to form a variable restriction to replace the fixed restriction 47 (Fig. 2, not shown). In a further embodiment, a second control slide replaces the fixed restrictor 47, the slide being tapered at one end and spring loaded to provide a variable restriction.
