Abstract

1,034,736. Fuel injection pumps. C.A.V. Ltd. Feb. 12, 1964 [Feb. 19, 1963], No. 6596/63. Heading F1A. A fuel injection pump has a vane type feed pump 5 feeding fuel to a bore containing opposed pistons, via a metering valve 14. The angular setting of the cam ring 15 varies with the pressure in the passage inconnecting the feed and injection pumps at a location between the metering valve 14 and a restricted orifice 13. The pressure is proportional to the speed and the load on the engine and acts on a spring loaded piston 19. The piston 19 may be stepped (Fig. 4, not shown) and the pressure upstream of the orifice 13 fed to the smaller diameter end of the piston, upon which the spring acts, whereby the effect of speed variation on the injection timing is reduced.
