A tool-holder comprises a tip-holder 4 angularly adjustably in a close-fitting recess 3. The tip may be triangular-, rectangular- or diamond-shaped and engages a backing block 7 having walls 7a which include an angle less than the angle between adjacent sides of the bit. An angularly-adjustable chip-breaker 9 is attached by a screw 10 to the clamp 11. The holder 4 may have the upper part 4c made of different metal from the lower part. The clamp 11 may be attached by a bayonet joint or a wedge. Both ends of the tool shank may hold a tip.
