Abstract

1,041,828. Variable-speed gear. SCHWEIZERISCHE INDUSTRIE - GESELLSCHAFT. June 28, 1963 [July 9, 1962; May 20, 1963], No. 25748/63. Heading F2D. A continuously-variable-ratio gear comprises an input shaft 2 formed with angularly displaced cams 4 surrounded by eccentric discs 5, all ganged together and in turn journalling rings 6 connected by straps 9 or rods, Fig. 4 (not shown), to ratchet clutches 15 driving to sleeves 11 journalled about an output shaft 3 and integral with bevel sun gears 12, 13, the latter meshing a bevel pinion 14 carried by a pin 14a on the output shaft. Ratio shift is effected either by hand or by motor rotation of a worm 27 meshing a worm-wheel 25 journalling on a pin 24 an idler 23 meshing a ring gear 22 fast with the input shaft 2, the idler also meshing a gear 28a journalled about the input shaft and integral with an identical gear 28b meshing a further idler 29 carried on the gear-case 26. The casing-mounted idler 29 meshes also a ring gear 30, identical with the ring gear 22, having an axial tab-and-slot connection 31a with the immediately adjacent eccentric disc 5. This latter is in turn connected through a tab-andslot to a floating sleeve 34a similarly connected to the next eccentric disc 5, and so on, so that all the eccentric discs 5 can be simultaneously rotated about the input shaft 2 to vary the throw of the straps &c. 9. As shown, each strap 9 passes over the outer rings of two adjacent ratchet clutches 15 and also over a spring-biased jockey pulley 17, but in a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), each jockey pulley is biased by a simple hydraulic servo.
