Abstract

1,040,887. Safety harnesses. OFFSHORE (SAILING) Ltd. June 21, 1963 [June 21, 1962], No. 23937/62. Heading A3V. A safety harness which has means to anchor a safety line to the front of the harness (e.g. as used by yachtsmen) comprises an adjustable chest belt 1 one end of which is secured to a metal (e.g. steel) line anchorage member 3, which consists of a ring 2 and a projecting line anchoring loop 7, the other looped end of the chest belt carrying a curved clip 4 which releasably engages member 3. A halter band 6 has at least one end secured to ring 2, the other end being permanently attached to the ring or releasably secured by a fastener (e.g. a clip of hooked form). A flexible connecting strap 8 is attached centrally to the halter band 6 and has at the other end a loop 9 through which belt 1 passes, the arrangement of the harness straps being such that the anchoring member 3 is located in a vertical direction. The harness may be made of nylon webbing or other synthetic plastic material.
