[Also in Group VII] A buckle for fastening, e.g. a nylon cord to another part such as the equipment or clothing of aircraft personnel comprises a body affording a main anchorage for connection to the part and having a gripping edge curved approximately to the radius of the cord and an auxiliary anchorage in the form of a bar arranged so that the cord passes under the gripping edge and auxiliary anchorage and back over the auxiliary anchorage and under the gripping edge between this latter and the standing end of the cord. As shown, the body consists in a triangular plate 10 having a triangular opening 11, one side 12 of the plate constituting the main anchorage and the opposite angle 13 forming the gripping edge. The side 12 and the overlying portion of a ring 15 are encircled by a loop of webbing 18 secured to the clothing, &c., the opposite portion of the ring constituting the auxiliary anchorage. The portion of the plate 10 opposite the side 12 is formed into a finger piece 19 which on being tilted upwardly slackens the buckle when the cord is secured as shown in Fig. 5. The side 12 may be formed with a tongue which is bent into an elongated loop 21 to retain the ring 15 while leaving it free to slide longitudinally of the buckle. With the free end of the cord 14 wedged against the gripping edge 13, the ring 15 is of such diameter that the portion 17 within the loop 21 lies slightly beyond the side 12 of the plate 10.
