Abstract

1,039,719. Adjustable seats. ROCKWELLSTANDARD CORPORATION. April 1, 1965 [June 22, 1964], No. 13825/65. Heading A4J. [Also in Division E2] A seat back 14 is tiltable into a reclining position relative to a seat 12 about an axis 30. An intermediate rail 18 is provided so that back 14 may be folded on to seat 12. The height of back 14 may be varied relative to seat 12 by adjustable stops 36. An adjuster 16 of adjustable length is pivoted at 50 to seat 12 and at 44 to back 14. Adjuster 16 consists of a tension member 48 slidably guided in a housing 40 and locked in adjusted position by lock plates 92, Fig. 6 (not shown). Each plate 92 has a central aperture 94 slightly larger than the diameter of tension member 48. A spring 98 bears in a guide plate 74a, fixed to housing 40 and against lock plates 92. A fulcrum pin 96 extending across housing 40 tilts plates 92 into frictional locking engagement with tension member 48. Plates 92 may be released from locking engagement by a cam member 102 actuated by a pull wire 116.
