Abstract

Steel bodies e.g. round bodies such as valve cones are coated by hot dipping in a molten bath of a cobalt based alloy containing tungsten and chromium and 1 - 6% by weight of boron. The round bodies may be rotated during or after coating and the coated body may be heated with oxyacetylene torches during the rotation. A bath temperature of 1150 DEG C. is used with an alloy composition of 1.2%C., 1.2% Si, 20% Cr, 4%W, 2.5%B, balance Co.
