Abstract

A body of W. Mo, Ta or Nb, or an alloy of two or more of these metals or a ferrous alloy containing at least 5% of one of these metals is coated with a layer of Ni, Co, Cr, Mn or Fe, preferably by electroplating, and then coated by hot dipping with a layer of Be or a Be-Al alloy or a Be-Al-Si alloy. In the case of the Be-Al alloy the Be content is 5-50% and with the Be-Al-Si alloy Be content is 5-15% and the Si content 5-50%. The electrodeposited layer may be heated to 1000 DEG C. to effect diffusion prior to the hot dipping which is carried out under a protective atmosphere.
