Abstract

1,039,317. Filters for liquids. W. MAYER, W. KOCH, K. U. MAYER-RUDOLPHI and H. H. MESSNER [trading as SCHUMACHER'SCHE FABRIK]. June 15,1964 [June 15,1963], No. 24733/64. Heading B1D. Each of a number of ceramic filter tubes 40 has secured to its periphery, by adhesive or tightness of fit or both, a resilient sealing ring 42. The length of a ring is greater than the depth of a corresponding shouldered recess 44 in a partition 26. Sealing is effected by forcing the rings into the recesses by a common pressure plate 50. Pressure plate 50 is forced down on to rings 42 for this purpose by a fixed annular flange 56 by screwing down bolts 20 during assembly of container halves 12, 14 and partition 26. The filter tubes are thereby also supported. In Fig. 4, (not shown), a partition is supported by a packing ring on an inwardly-directed flange in a one-part casing. Each filter tube depends downwards with a small clearance through a hole in the partition and is supported by a sealing ring which fits tightly around its upper (open) end and rests on the partition. Each sealing ring is surrounded by a bush of shorter axial length than itself. The rings are in this case compressed by a pressure plate forced downwards by nuts engaging its upper surface and screwed down on to protruding bolts secured to the partition. In Fig. 3 (not shown) the filter tubes consist of perforated metal covered by a thin bonded or unbonded fleece.
